Who can be an ILCA Member?
The International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®) is the member association for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLC®) and other healthcare professionals who care for breastfeeding families. ILCA membership is open to all who support and promote breastfeeding. Members may join at any time and do not need to be an IBCLC to be a member. We have five individual membership options: Standard (IBCLC), Clinical Professional (non-IBCLC), Supporter (non-IBCLC), Student, and Retired. How long do I have access to my membership?
The ILCA membership term is twelve months from the date joined. We give a grace period until the end of the calendar month. For example, if you were to purchase an ILCA membership on 25 June 2021, then your ILCA membership term would be through 30 June 2022. Because we offer members a full year of membership from the date joined, we do not offer prorated membership pricing.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Membership payment can be made by check or credit card. If paying by check, please make checks payable to ILCA and send to the below address along with your membership application form. If paying by credit card, please note that we accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. If you require an invoice prior to purchase, please contact our office staff.

How do I sign into the website as a member?
Go to the ILCA Homepage. Click on “MY ACCOUNT” located at the top-right of your screen next to the yellow “JOIN NOW” button. Enter your Username and Password and click the blue “Log In” button. If you do not remember your password, click the Reset Password link on the login page. If you have forgotten your Account Username or need additional support, please contact our office staff for assistance.

Do you provide membership cards?
We do not provide membership cards. If proof of membership is required, our transaction receipts are designed to show that you are a member of our organization.
How can I get a receipt from a previous purchase?
Receipts are automatically generated and emailed following the successful processing of payment. Should you need an additional copy please contact our staff for assistance.
I recently joined ILCA and am wondering when I will start receiving the Journal of Human Lactation (JHL) in print.
The JHL is published in February, May, August, and November of each year. Because each membership term lasts for one year, you will receive four total issues during each membership term. The first issue you receive will depend upon when you join or renew your membership. If you have a question about when to expect the JHL to arrive, please contact our office staff for clarification.
How do I update my information in my account?
Log into your account on the ILCA website. Click on “MY ACCOUNT” located at the top-right of your screen next to the yellow “JOIN NOW” button. Enter your Username and Password and click the “Log In” button. This will guide you to the member benefits page. Under the ILCA logo, you will see “Home” & “Profile” click on “Profile”. The page defaults to the “Contact Info” page with three tabs, each describing an area where you may update information. The tabs are listed below:
- Contact Info: displays three fields; the first is your membership profile (how we connect with you), the second is your address contact information for your membership profile, home, work, FALC directory, etc. Please note; information must be labeled FALC directory in order to appear in its search engines list.
- Custom: your credentials, additional information about you, opting in/out of the FALC directory, and communication preferences
- Settings: change member login or password. Please note; the “All Directories” setting does not include the FALC directory.
You may update your information on the “Contact Info” page by using the small blue pencil displayed to the right of your information. To add new information use the white “Add New” button provided. You may also delete a listing by clicking on the red trashcan. To update your profile click “Edit Profile”.
How can I get a listing on the Find a Lactation Consultant directory (FALC)?
The Find a Lactation Consultant (FALC) directory is a member benefit for our Standard (IBCLC) members. If you have joined ILCA as a Standard member and indicated that you would like to be listed in the FALC, our staff will first verify your IBCLC credential on IBLCE’s official registry and then add you to the FALC. Directories are updated weekly by staff. If you are a Standard member and would like to be added to the directory please contact our staff.
How do I edit my listing/add my listing/remove my name from the Find a Lactation Consultant directory (FALC)?
Log into your account on the ILCA website. Click on “MY ACCOUNT” located at the top-right of your screen next to the yellow “JOIN NOW” button. If you decide to opt-out of the FALC directory click on the “Custom” tab. Under the title “Opt-In to the FALC Directory” select FALSE. Click on the UPDATE button. The change will take place once the website is refreshed within approximately 15-20 minutes.
How do I get to my membership benefits?
Log into your account on the ILCA website. Click on “MY ACCOUNT” located at the top-right of your screen next to the yellow “JOIN NOW” button. Enter your Username and Password and click the blue “Log In” button. This will guide you directly to the member benefits page where you will be able to:
- Renew Your Membership: renew your membership so you do not miss out on any services and benefits
- Find A Lactation Consultant Directory: your access to the directory, and where IBCLCs can verify
- Find A Member: locate an ILCA member who has allowed for their contact information to be shared with other members
- Knowledge Center: access to webinars, independent study modules, and education resources
- Journal of Human Lactation (JHL): access the complete library of articles to serve as evidence in support of the work you do with clients
- Inside Track Articles: access client handouts that reinforce your teachings and educate the families you serve
- Resource Library: locate a library of ILCA resources available for viewing
- Order with your ILCA Membership Discount: order additional copies of ILCA publication, FREE versions can be downloaded from ILCA Resources
- Reminders: See when your membership expires and other important information
How do I get to the free continuing education for members?
One of our most popular member benefits is the free continuing education located in our Knowledge Center. You may access the continuing education units by logging into your account on the ILCA website. Click on “MY ACCOUNT” located at the top-right of your screen next to the yellow “JOIN NOW” button. Enter your Username and Password and click the blue “Log In” button. This will guide you to the member benefits page. The Knowledge Center is the second tile down from the top with the picture of the purple computer screen. Click on the tile and be directed to the center’s homepage where you will find, free exclusive learning modules for members, webinar recordings, past conference sessions, and easy-to-use search options.
Can I get a transcript with the courses I have completed?
Yes, you can access your ILCA transcript in our Knowledge Center. Log into your account on the ILCA website. Click on “MY ACCOUNT” located at the top-right of your screen next to the yellow “JOIN NOW” button. Enter your Username and Password and click the blue “Log In” button. This will guide you directly to the member benefits page.
Click on the tile that says “Knowledge Center”. This will lead you to the Knowledge Center’s homepage. Located on the top row you will see the “Dashboard” tab. Click on the tab to view the drop-down menu,Select “My Courses.”
Underneath the “My Courses” heading, you will see a button that says: “Transcript/Achievements”. Click on this button and you can view your ILCA Course Transcript. You will also have the option to download it as a PDF.
How do I get to the Journal of Human Lactation online?
All issues of the JHL are available online to members 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To access them log into your account on the ILCA website. Click on “MY ACCOUNT” located at the top-right of your screen next to the yellow “JOIN NOW” button. Enter your Username and Password and click the blue “Log In” button. This will guide you directly to the member benefits page. Click on the “Journal of Human Lactation” tile. Please be sure to use either Firefox or Chrome as the SAGE site is not compatible with Explorer. You may view all back issues as well as the current issue directly from the SAGE site. Please note: JHL articles can only be accessed through the ILCA.org website. The articles will appear if you access the SAGE website directly; however the articles will be locked for viewing.
