Ballot for election of ILCA Directors
Members
with an email address on file received ballot information
by email to enable them to cast their vote online. Those without
an email address received the ballot by mail. The
deadline for receipt of ballots at the ILCA office or online
is April 15, 2005. The ballot includes voting for
the Best Article in 2004 issues of the Journal of Human Lactation.

2005-2006 Conference Program Committee selected
ILCA welcomes
the new members of the Conference Program Committee who were
approved at the recent Board of Directors Meeting. [more]
Volunteers
Needed for Professional Development Committee
ILCA seeks
volunteers to serve on the new Professional Development Committee
which will identify and meet the professional development
needs of the association and members. Volunteers should be
ILCA members who are IBCLCs with expertise in a variety of
academic and/or professional disciplines, including classroom
academic educators and clinical educators, as well as individuals
who attend various education services. Committee member term
is a flexible three years. Applicants must comply with ILCA's
Education
Standards and disclose any conflict of interest.
Please
complete the Volunteer Application form (PDF,
Word)
and submit it, along with a curriculum vitae and letter outlining
your
experience with professional lactation education and how you
would help ILCA, to Jim
Smith or fax to 919-787-4916, by April 30, 2005.

World
Breastfeeding Advocates Review Gains in Past Decade
Ten years
after the International Conference on Women in Beijing, China,
global breastfeeding organizations have reviewed gains made
in the last decade and the challenges that mothers still face.
Their views are summarized in a short paper distributed at
the March 2005 meeting of the UN's Commission on the Status
of Women. [more]

Paper on State legislation
Marsha
Walker, RN, IBCLC, reports that the United States Breastfeeding
Committee (USBC) has a new paper available on its website
that catalogs and analyzes state legislation on breastfeeding
throughout the US. This information may be particularly useful
to those who are drafting legislation in their own states
