unspeakable tragedies that unfolded in the aftermath of this horrific
storm. Many of us have felt helpless as we watched the images on
television and heard the stories of suffering. Yet it is apparent that

Thanks to Karen Querna, retiring Marketing Committee chair The Board of Directors gratefully acknowledges the hard work and dedication of Karen Querna, our recently retired volunteer chair of the Marketing Committee.
During Karen's tenure, the ILCA website was re-designed and enriched and display 'banners' were designed. Karen also oversaw revisions to the ILCA membership brochure and began the process of branding ILCA's publications that has been carried forth by Marketing Director Cathy Carothers and the Marketing Committee.
The Board wishes Karen much happiness in her new endeavors.
Call for 2006 ILCA Board Nominations: Deadline November 30According to the By-Laws of the International Lactation Consultant Association, the following positions are due to be filled at the 2006 Annual General Meeting of the Association to be held in July, 2006 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Director of Member and Affiliate Services: Addresses the needs and concerns of individual and affiliate members worldwide; develops programs and projects to enhance ILCA membership.
Director at Large: Will coordinate many items relating to professional development, including contacts with the Research Committee, the International Lactation Education Accreditation Council and the Journal of Human Lactation staff and publisher.

Two Australian hospitals re-accredited by BFHI
Congratulations to the staff of Cairns Base Hospital, Queensland, and Southwest Healthcare Warrnambool, Victoria which have been re-accredited as BFHI Hospitals. This brings the number of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative accredited hospitals in Australia to 51.

US Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign Ends Sept 30, 2005
The National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign launched in 2004 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health will end on September 30th. [more]
