Your Consent Forms
Please share your resources with colleagues! ILCA’s
Professional Development Committee is seeking samples of consent
forms used in clinical practice to post on the ILCA web site
as a resource for members. Some topics of interest are supplementation,
permission to separate, use of breastfeeding devices, and
taking photographs. If you have a consent form on these or
other topics that you are willing to share, please send it
by email to committee chair, Linda Kutner, at lakutner@aol.com.
Unless requested otherwise, ILCA will remove identifiers from
the forms so members may use them in their practice. The forms
will be posted on ILCA’s website. Please share your
resources with colleagues to help the lactation profession
grow and thrive!
Share Your Teaching Tips
Please
share your creativity with colleagues! Do you have creative
teaching strategies that you use in classes for parents or
staff? Do you use techniques when teaching mothers one-on-one
that are especially effective? ILCA's Professional Development
Committee invites you to share your teaching tips so that
colleagues may enhance their own interactions and teaching
effectiveness. Tips from Kay Hoover are already posted on
the ILCA website. Please email your tips to committee chair,
Linda Kutner, at lakutner@aol.com.

| Petition
to US TSA to allow expressed breastmilk without baby
Breastfeeding
mothers traveling without their children are currently not
allowed to bring expressed breastmilk in carry-on luggage.
Although this is a rule in the U.S., it can affect traveling
mothers worldwide. Sign this petition,
organized by a working mother and supported by Care, La Leche
League, and others, to tell the US Transportation Security
Agency to relax rules about expressed breastmilk.

IBLCE
Scope of Practice statement from ILCA Board
The Board of Directors of the International Lactation Consultant
Association (ILCA BOD) met for its regularly scheduled meeting
27-29 October 2006. The ILCA BOD extensively discussed the

congratulatory packets to newly certified/recertified IBCLCs
and posted on the IBLCE website on 26 Oct 2006. The ILCA BOD
has been tracking the intense IBCLC reaction to this Scope
of Practice: on Lactnet, in individual e-mails addressed to
us as leaders of ILCA, and in e-mail groups of several other
subgroups of lactation professionals. [more]

| Lactnet
Wins Grand Prize Listserv Award
In June, we reported that Lactnet had received the LISTSERV
Innovation Award in L-Soft's 2005-2006 LISTSERV
Choice Awards program.
In October,
Lactnet received the Grand Prize in L-Soft's 2005-2006 LISTSERV®
Choice Awards program, the only global recognition program
for email list excellence. “Lactnet is an extraordinary
Internet community, unique in the way it uses an email discussion
list alone to bring together so many different types of individuals,
all with the same goal of promoting breastfeeding. Lactnet
receives the top LISTSERV Choice Award for being a shining
example of how a simple use of technology can be so powerful,
resulting in a wave of positive outcomes for mothers and babies
worldwide,” Eric Thomas, L-Soft Founder and CEO, said.
“On Lactnet, thousands of lactation professionals and
other supporters become virtual colleagues – all within
the reach of a single email message – and join together
to help breastfeeding mothers and enhance maternal-child health.”
ILCA congratulates
longtime member and listmother Kathleen Bruce for this outstanding
achievement! Congratulations, too, to other Lactnet listmothers
and ILCA members Karen Zeretzke and Melissa Vickers. See more
at our Member
Spotlight.
