ILCA 2008 Elections for Board of Directors
Voting in the 2008 ILCA election of Officers and Directors continues until April 15, 2008 . The on-line process is quick and easy, and your vote is anonymous and secure. Are you wondering about that "write-in" option? It allows voters the freedom to vote for any person they want. The slate of candidates has been reviewed by the ILCA Nominations Committee, and approved by the ILCA Board of Directors… but as a voting ILCA member (i.e. one who is also IBCLC) you are entitled to write-in and vote for someone else. Please take the time to read the personal statements and to vote for the candidates of your choice by visiting http://www.ilca.org/08ballot.html. To cast your ballot, use the unique login information you received through the emailed ballot. If you experience any problems during the voting process or have any questions, please contact Amber Maxa at ambermaxa@ilca.org.

IBCLC Day March 5, 2008

Quality Breastfeeding Care: IBCLCs in Action
ILCA hopes everyone celebrated IBCLC Day this past month! Thank you for the very special work you do to support breastfeeding.

If you have a photo you'd like to share with your colleagues around the world to let them know what you're working on in your community, send your picture along with a caption to Kendall Cox, ILCA's IBCLC Day coordinator at kendallcox@ilca.org

Second Fellowship at WABA Headquarters Available
ILCA and the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) are again offering an ILCA member the opportunity of an internship to travel and work with WABA on outreach and advocacy projects at their headquarters in Penang, Malaysia. The first fellowship filled by Sue Saunders was so successful that ILCA and WABA are pleased to continue this important opportunity.

Applicants must have been a financial member of ILCA for a minimum of 1 year and demonstrate an interest in working in the setting of breastfeeding advocacy.

Deadline for applications is April 15, 2008. Please send a letter of interest with your Curriculum Vitae to Jim Smith, ILCA Executive Director, at the ILCA Office or email to jimsmith@ilca.org.

World Breastfeeding Week 2008
Mother Support: Going for the Gold

Just as top athletes from around the world have their sights set on the gold for the Olympics in Beijing, breastfeeding advocates will be going for the gold in a bit of a different way as we prepare for World Breastfeeding Week 2008.

Check the WBW page on the ILCA website for updates. ILCA's World Breastfeeding Week kit is in the works and will include a variety of new resources in support of the theme to help you with outreach and event planning.

WABA WBW Video Contest
Let's tell a story about supporting the breastfeeding mother. Create a one-minute video telling the world about this year's WBW theme and show them how breastfeeding mothers can be supported. Five winning videos will be awarded US$200.00 each. Deadline for submissions is 30 April 2008

Videos will be reviewed by a WABA panel of judges including the WABA Mother Support Task Force and displayed on the WBW website. They may also be uploaded on YouTube and shared with the breastfeeding community worldwide.

For more details, or to enter, visit http://www.worldbreastfeedingweek.org/

Call For Pictures!
ILCA is seeking pictures from members across the globe of mothers, babies, and members of all ethnicities to draw from when we print new brochures, website banners, etc. Of particular interest would be pictures of LCs instructing mothers, pictures that somehow depict research being done in the area of breastfeeding, babies in NICU being breastfed, and anything that would portray leadership and/or advocacy for breastfeeding.

If you have any pictures that meet the following specifications, please submit them to info@ilca.org along with a signed photo release from anyone who is clearly depicted in the picture. Photos should be submitted at the largest possible size, preferably 8" x 10" or larger, as TIFF or JPEG with a resolution of 300 dpi or greater.

Donna has been an ILCA member since 2003, and renews her membership online yearly. When we called Donna to tell her of her good fortune, she was out but her husband took our call. He commented, "Donna will be thrilled when I give her the good news, and since I'm planning to go with her to the ILCA conference this year, we'll both enjoy this great prize!" Congratulations, Donna. See you in Las Vegas next July!
