ILCA 2008 Elections Begin February 15
Elections will begin later this month for three open positions on the ILCA Board of Directors. Ballots may be completed both on-line and by mail. Look for a separate listserv (e-mail) with a link to the on-line ballot and information about the exemplary slate of candidates. Successful candidates will be announced in May and the new directors will be installed at the Annual General Meeting at the ILCA Conference in July.

UNBAT: United Nations Breastfeeding Advocacy Team
Another profile of the liaisons representing ILCA
UNBAT is a group of representatives of breastfeeding advocacy organizations who attend meetings at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, New York, USA. Organizations represented are the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABA), International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), La Leche League International (LLLI) and the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA). Current volunteer members include: For ABM, Dr Julia Bloch, Dr Miriam Labbok; for ILCA, Margot Mann, Kim Block, Susan Burger and Angela Smith (ILCA); For LLLI, Judy LeVan Fram, Kate Sharp, Ginger Sall, Rebecca Maghalese; and for WABA, Beth Styer, Chris Mulford and Susan Siew (WABA). Margot Mann is lead liaison for ILCA.

Care and Management of the Late Preterm Infant Toolkit Now Available from CPQCC
The California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) has released their newest toolkit for perinatal care. This toolkit is designed to help the NICU and hospital care team assess current nutritional practices and outcomes, and to promote and support breastmilk for all infants as part of optimal nutritional management. World Breastfeeding Week Photography Contest
WABA is organising a global breastfeeding photography contest for WBW 2008, Mother Support: Going for the Gold. Photos should tell a story illustrating support for breastfeeding and should reflect global diversity, various ages of breastfed infants and children, and various locales. Ten winning photos will be selected, and contributors will be awarded US$100 for each published photo.
Submit your entries by 29 February 2008 to WABA. More details can be found at www.worldbreastfeedingweek.org.

This new text is a user friendly manual for the clinical setting. Introductory chapters provide a brief review of evidence supporting the superiority of breastmilk, and a systematic approach for a lactation consult. Chapters are then organized alphabetically by common concerns in the field of lactation. Information is presented in an outline format for easy access, or by frequently asked questions related to the topic. Parent handouts are now on a CD that comes with the book and may be copied for these educational purposes.

Poster Sessions- Call for abstracts for Las Vegas
Considering a poster or oral presentation of your research at the ILCA Conference in Las Vegas? Abstracts will be accepted until March 1. A few new protocols are being established this year: those desiring to give their presentation orally must indicate this on the application, and abstract submissions for the main conference will not be automatically considered for oral presentations at research sessions. Further details are available on the ILCA website.
2008 IBLCE Examination Site at Red Rock Resort
Conference attendees planning to sit the IBLCE Exam in 2008 may do so at the Red Rock Resort, Las Vegas on Monday July 28 th following the ILCA conference. Merely indicate this as your testing locale on your Exam Application.
On Sunday afternoon (27 th) after the close of the main conference, ILCA is offering a free workshop for examination registrants. You will be given some helpful advice by Judi Lauwers, BA, IBCLC on test taking techniques; yoga stretches by Doraine Bailey, MA, IBCLC, Certified TriYoga Instructor, and some relaxing massage to finish the afternoon. We trust this will leave you confident, rejuvenated and ready for Monday’s exam. Please register for this workshop along with the rest of the conference.
