ILCA’s 2005 Conference Program Planning Committee has reviewed several outstanding speaker proposals and put together an exciting program. The registration brochure will be mailed in early January and will also be available on the Conferences page of the ILCA website. ILCA scholarships for 2005 annual conference

Applications are invited for two scholarships – the ILCA General Scholarship and the Eli Hormann Memorial Scholarship --for attendance at the 2005 annual conference. Email info@ilca.org to request information and an application, or download it from the Conferences page at www.ilca.org. March 31 is the deadline for receipt of completed applications at the ILCA office for the 2005 annual conference. Applications for scholarship funds to attend other conferences should be received at least four months in advance of the event.

European Union may relax rules on marketing baby milk

La Leche League seeks stories from employed nursing mothers

La Leche League International (LLLI) is planning to publish a book in which women tell how they find ways to do paid work while breastfeeding (or ways to breastfeed while bringing in an income). The book will be produced in collaboration with the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN).[more]

US Centers for Disease Control sponsors award for breastfeeding commercial

The Oklahoma USA State Department of Health (OSDH) Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Service and Office of Communications received an award for their locally produced commercial entitled, “Mom’s Milk is Best”. The award was given by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the National Public Health Information Coalition, an annual conference which it sponsors.[more]

Time to renew your ILCA membership for 2005 Membership renewals for 2005 are now due. You should have received your invoice by mail in recent weeks. As well as renewing by mail, you can also renew on the ILCA website quickly and easily, and save on postage! You will need your member ID which is listed on your renewal form. Unless you have changed it, your password is your last name. If you wish to renew online for two years, make a charitable contribution or change your membership category, please contact the ILCA office at info@ilca.org in advance, so that your online renewal form can be adjusted accordingly. Be sure to renew by December 31, 2004 to avoid interruption to your access to the Members Only area of the website or delivery of your JHL.

Funds needed for 2005 Research Grant

The Research Committee has increased the amount of the 2005 research grant to $4000. In order to make that amount available, we need the help of individual members and affiliates. Please consider making a donation to the Research Fund. The research project which is enabled by the annual grant provides the evidence on which our practice is based. Please send your donation to the ILCA office.

The JHL is looking for new Editorial Review Board members, specifically individuals with a PhD or MD with extensive research experience in the areas of obstetrics and microbiology.
