an opportunity to upload back issues of the Journal of Human
Lactation onto the Web. To this end, we need disposable copies

Summary of March 2005 ILCA Board Meeting
The ILCA
Board of Directors met on March 4, 5 and 6 in San Diego, California,
USA. Among the many issues discussed were:
•
Holding ILCA’s 2007 Annual Conference in San Diego
• Maintaining member dues for 2006 at 2005 levels
• Developing additional Position Papers

ILCA
Accredits Two Lactation Education Courses
As part
of establishing ILCA's accreditation of lactation education
courses, the International Lactation Education Accreditation
Council (ILEAC), an official committee of ILCA, has completed
piloting the accreditation process. During this period, education
providers were invited to apply for accreditation.
Ellen
McIntyre, PhD, ILEAC’s Chair, announced in March that
ILEAC has accredited the Lactation Consultant Training
Program (The Inova Learning Network) and the Lactation
Consultant Preparation Course (Lactation Education Consultants)
on behalf of ILCA for a period of three years.
With completion
of the pilot phase, ILEAC is now accepting applications for
accreditation of lactation education courses from education
providers. To apply, courses must be a minimum of 18 clock
hours and must be approved for IBLCE CERPs. [more]

for the position of Education Coordinator, ILCA is pleased
to announce that Judith Lauwers is the successful

Needed for Professional Development Committee
ILCA seeks
volunteers to serve on the new Professional Development Committee
which will identify and meet the professional development
needs of the association and members. [more]
Three
Canadian Facilities Receive Baby-Friendly Designation
La
Maison de Naissance Mimosa, CLSC d’Argenteuil and Hôpital
Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital, all in Quebec,
have received Baby- Friendly designation. [more]

BFHI Electronic Bulletin
A

The current bulletin highlights an issue of Australian Midwifery
News, in which one hospital’s experience in overcoming
obstacles to maintaining skin-to-skin contact after caesarean

Ballot
for Election of ILCA Directors and Best JHL Article in 2004
Don’t
forget to cast your vote! Members with an email address on
file received ballot information by email to enable them to
vote online. Those without an email address received the ballot
by mail. The deadline for receipt of ballots at the
ILCA office or online is April 15, 2005. The ballot
includes voting for the Best Article in 2004 issues of the
Journal of Human Lactation.
