2006 Theme: Code Watch: 25 Years of Protecting Breastfeeding
August 1-7 is designated each year as World Breastfeeding Week by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA). Several places celebrate breastfeeding the entire month of August while in other countries World Breastfeeding Week is held during the month of October. The theme for 2006 is "Code Watch: 25 Years of Protecting Breastfeeding, providing an opportunity to celebrate the progress that has been made worldwide to protect and promote breastfeeding. It also serves to remind us that we all play a part in creating a positive environment that enables mothers to breastfeed successfully.
WABA has designed an Action Folder and Calendar with this year’s theme. To view WABA’s 2006 downloadable World Breastfeeding Week materials click here.

| Oxytocin Nasal Spray Does Not Boost Milk Output - Study
A study in Archives of Diseases in Childhood, Fetal and Neonatal Edition, May 2006 finds that nasal spray containing the hormone oxytocin does not improve milk output in mothers expressing milk for preterm .
"Mothers may experience difficulties in expressing breast milk for infants too immature or sick to breast feed," Dr. M.S. Fewtrell, of the Institute of Child Health in London, and colleagues explain. [more]
