Independent Study Modules — Learn and Earn!

ILCA offers a wide variety of study modules for you to Learn new information while you Earn credit toward your certification. Modules are derived from articles in the Journal of Human Lactation (JHL), conference sessions, and notable publications. Need a few more E-CERPs? ILCA has them! Need to update your knowledge on a particular topic? ILCA has scores of topics from which to choose.
The new online process is quick and easy! After you purchase your module, you will receive a personal student code which will allow you access to the module materials. You can open the conference session and PowerPoint presentation in two windows to view simultaneously. Then go to the questions to complete the module. Video or audiotapes of conference sessions must be viewed online. Module files are available for download to read materials offline.
Continuing education credit for study modules is based on a 60-minute hour. The pass rate for each module is 70% and you will have two opportunities to reach a score of 70%. ILCA is a long-term provider with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners for Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPs). Modules are available in L, E and R CERPs. ILCA is an approved provider of continuing nursing education (contact hours) by North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (NCNA provider number: AP 088).
ILCA members receive a discounted price! Before your purchase is completed, you will be asked if you are an ILCA member. The site searches ILCA’s member directory by your last name. The directory is updated every 2-3 days, so please allow time if you are a new member. When your membership is verified, you will receive the member rate of $10 per credit rather than the non member rate of $20 per credit. If you are not an active ILCA member and would like to receive the ILCA member rate, please update your member status before you enter the study module site.

Online purchase and completion of study modules requires payment by credit card. If you wish to pay by check, go to the online site to select your modules and then send payment with the Study Module Payment by Check form to ILCA, allowing 3 weeks for processing. You will receive an email notice with a student code for each module purchased and instructions for re-entering the online site to access the module materials and complete the module online.
