FELLOW OF THE INTERNATIONAL LACTATION CONSULTANT ASSOCIATION
Background
The Board of Directors of ILCA announced in August 2007 the creation of the Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association program. It has been a long-time goal of the ILCA Strategic Plan, and members of our profession, to establish a program that would suitably recognize career-long achievements of the leaders and mentors in the field of lactation consultancy.
Self-nominated and self-funded designation as “fellow” is the typical manner of recognizing professional excellence in the health care field. ILCA members who have achieved a high level of professionalism, demonstrated by meeting independently-set criteria, will be permitted to attain this universal form of recognition. All eligible ILCA members are encouraged to submit their application, to permit their recognition as a Fellow of ILCA (FILCA).
Criteria for Eligibility
A candidate for Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association (FILCA) must meet the following requirements:
- Continuous financial membership in ILCA for at least 5 years.
- Volunteer commitment to ILCA or an ILCA affiliate/chapter, super-affiliate.
- Recertification as IBCLC by IBLCE examination at ten or more years.
- Development of self and others
- Significant contribution to the field of lactation consulting
- The Fellow of ILCA Application Review Committee requests your 250 word biography, for publishing in eGlobe, and use in compiling a history and commemorative record of FILCA inductees.

Once your application materials have been submitted to the ILCA Office, they will be reviewed against the eligibility requirements by the ILCA staff and members of the Fellow of ILCA Application Review Committee. You will receive notification of your acceptance (or the need for further documentation) by the Application Review Committee. If you have questions, please contact the ILCA office at info@ilca.org.
